Tips for Interviewing Job Candidates

To make the best possible use of our services, use these helpful tips to get you started:

LandaJob is most successful for those clients who partner with us and who don’t think of us strictly as a vendor.

We may ask many more questions than you’re used to in working with recruiters or HR. We believe time spent upfront will result in a better long-term match.

Allow us to visit your company, and, if you want, meet with co-workers to get a feel for the work environment.

  • Access to the hiring manager always expedites the process.
  • The candidates’ search can sometimes be in an extremely short window – immediate feedback will help hold the interest of a good candidate.
  • If you’re going to have a long hiring process, let us know so that we can find candidates who can accommodate that.
  • Be realistic. We’ll be completely honest with you about the prospects of finding exactly who you’re looking for.
  • Give us honest assessments of every candidate you interview. Trust us to use that information appropriately.
  • Designate someone to work with us on scheduling issues if that’s easiest for you.
  • Let us work with you on how the offer is made to the candidate.
  • Keep LandaJob aware of all communications between you and the candidate.

Interview Tips

  • Plan your interviews the same way you plan any other business meeting. Set an agenda and outline specific items you want to cover.
  • Pay the candidate the courtesy of reviewing their resume before they arrive.
  • Provide complete information to the candidate, including job description, and company and department background. The more information you give them, the better they will be able to highlight the abilities that match your needs.
  • Don’t do all of the talking in an interview.
  • Be interactive with the candidate and make sure they have an opportunity to sell you on their experience and ability.
  • Provide complete feedback after the interview.
  • Don’t leave people hanging for weeks with no follow-up information. You want to make sure that prospective candidates are left with only good impressions of your company.
  • Take the time to offer the candidate an opportunity to meet co-workers.
  • Don’t forget that part of your role is to sell the candidate on your company.
  • Check references. If you’re working with a LandaJob recruiter, checking references is a part of our service.
  • Do not give an offer in the first meeting.
