Dear Landa

Dear Landa

Another installment of advice to the joblorn, where questions are sometimes real, sometimes not – but try to imagine the ones we can’t print.

Dear Landa:

Thanks for getting me my very first temp job at The Wonderful World of Widgetry. These first couple of weeks have been fabulous! The people here seem to love me and give me tons of compliments on the work I’ve been doing for them. And, they have told me, more than once, that they wish I could stick around long term. But they haven’t made me an offer, so what gives? Do they plan on making an offer? Do they really like me? Do they really think I’m doing a good job? In short, do they want me here or not???

Signed,

Totally Freaked Out

Dear Freaked,

First, take a deep breath. Now, take another. That’s it…nice…and…easy. Relax for a moment.

Here’s the deal: The folks at Widgets are, indeed, singing your praises to us. They do like you and, just as importantly, they are very pleased with the work you are doing for them. But (there’s always a “But” about here, right?), the assignment is still scheduled to end next week, as planned. So, instead of fretting about why no full-time offer has been coming, take pride in the fact that you are doing such good work and that they appreciate all you’ve done for them (as do we!).

You are just starting your career and each positive work experience, like this one, will go a long way in building a resume that will lead to great opportunities for you in the future. And you never know, it could be at Widgetry where you find yourself down the road. Stranger things have happened!

Signed,

Landa
